It is obvious that this planet is undergoing, to
some degree, climate change. We are having once in a lifetime floods, severe droughts, receding glaciers — but
whether man is having an influence and to what degree, if we are, has
not been established.
Some scientists say their global models are accurate to a very small degree, while others say that there is not enough computer power to model such a massive system as a global
climate.
Both sides of the issue say that they
are right, environmentalists, the sky is falling, the oil industry and big business say its not and we can’t afford
to go making radical promises based on bad science. Leaders in the industry say that they are already spending millions of dollars in buying new equipment to clean up their emissions, and further millions in research and development. They
say by doing so they are saving money and helping to
clean up the environment, but in their time frame.
Other industrial leaders say that if forced into unrealistic
goals they will be forced to, in some cases, shut down operations. Others say that they will be forced to reduce staff to meet the emission standards in an unrealistic time frame.
